Q: What is 4-H?
A: 4-H is an informal, practical educational program for youth. It is the youth development of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the off campus division of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station of Rutgers University. 4-H involves hands on education where there's fun in learning. Currently 100+ volunteers teamwork with the 4-H staff to provide high quality personal growth opportunities for over 450 youth in traditional club work and 400 youth in special interest groups in Ocean County and 3500 youth in school enrichment programs.

Q: Isn't 4-H just for kids who live on farms?
A: NO! 4-H is for all youth, wherever they live...on farms, in suburbs, in cities. It serves all youth from all backgrounds.

Q: Does Ocean County 4-H have clubs?
A: YES! Clubs are the foundation of the 4-H program. A 4-H club is a group of five or more youngsters guided by one or more adult volunteer leader.

Q: What are the ages?
A: Youth in grades 4-13 can be a 4-H club member and youth in grades 1-3 can be 4-H prep members.

Q: Who "runs" the 4-H Program in Ocean County?
A: The Program Associate and Program Assistant are responsible for the county wide 4-H program as well as dedicated leaders and volunteers. Volunteers receive training and continued education.

Q: What do the four "H's" on the 4-H emblems stand for?
A: The 4-H emblem is a green four-leaf clover with a white 'H' on each leaflet, symbolizing Head, Hears, Hands, and Health. The 4-H emblem was patented in 1924.
